Texas House to Vote on Arizona-Like Bill on Cinco de Mayo

It looks like the conservative leaders of the Texas House of Representatives have chosen Cinco de Mayo to vote and pass House Bil 12. HB12 is the Arizona-like "sanctuary cities" bill which will turn local police officers into immigration agents, while legalizing the racial profiling of Hispanic Texans, among other members of historical minorities.

Now is your chance to call your State Representative and request that he or she VOTE NO on HOUSE BILL 12! And that he or she stop Texas from becoming another Arizona. Here's what YOU can do:

1) Find your State Representative by clicking here.

2) Call the number listed for the Austin office and tell the person or voice mail system:  "Hello, I am ______ and I am your constituent. I am calling to ask that you VOTE NO on HOUSE BILL 12. Please do not make Texas another Arizona. Texas cannot afford to defend HB12 in a losing court battle. Our local police need funding to solve the major crimes that threaten our livelihood.  Vote NO on HOUSE BILL 12. Thank you."

It is not surprising that the anti-immigrant side of the Texas Legislature would vote on this bill on what is truly a Mexican American holiday in Texas. Although that side may have the votes and Governor Rick Perry has vowed to sign the bill as one of his "emergency" measures, we must speak out.

The bill will likely end up in costly litigation whose costs they will gladly place on the backs of all Texans. As Tejanos, we must remember in 2012 and 2014 and vote!

UPDATE 10:20am:  The Texas House Calendars Committee has rescheduled the debate on HB12 for Friday, May 6th.

Los diputados conservadores de la camara estatal de Texas han escojido el dia Cinco de Mayo para votar y aceptar a la legislación anti-inmigrante, House Bill 12.  HB12 es la legislación que hará al estado de Texas que sea como el estado de Arizona. La ley permitirá que la policia local actuen como agentes de inmigración mientras legalizando la discriminacion racial de Hispanos Tejanos y ademas otros miembros de minorias históricas.

Ahora es su oportunidad de llamar a su diputado estatal para pedirle que VOTE NO y CONTRA el HOUSE BILL 12. Y tambien que no deje que Texas se vuelva en Arizona. Para comunicarse con su diputado es simple:

2) Llame al numero telefonico de la oficina hubicada en Austin, TX y digale a la persona or a la maquina mensajera:  Hola. Me llamo ________ y soy so constituyente. Llamo para pedirle que VOTE NO y CONTRA el HOUSE BILL 12. Por favor no deje que Texas se vuelva en otro estado anti-inmigrante como Arizona. El estado de Texas no tiene la manera de defender esta ley en la corte judicial. Nuestra policia local necesita fondos para resolver crimenes mayores que actualmente amenazan a la comunidad. VOTE NO y CONTRA HOUSE BILL 12. Gracias.

No es sorpresa que el lado anti-inmigrante de la Camara de Diputados votará por esta ley durante este dia de celebracion que es realmente Mexico-Americano. Aunque los conservadores y el Gobernador Rick Perry han prometido hacer ley esta legislación anti-inmigrante y anti-Latina, nosotros los Tejanos debemos decir no a la ley. 

Los conservadores haran que los Tejanos pongan sobre sus espaldas los costos de defender esta ley en la corte judicial, y las necesidas de nuestras escuelas y servicios criticos se quedaran olvidadas. Nosotros los Tejanos debemos recordar quien apoyó esta ley anti-inmigrante y anti-Latina y hay que votar in 2012 y 2014!
